Veteran Marathi Actor Jayant Sawarkar, Best-Known For Singham Dies At 88

Jayant Sawarkar Death: It's a sad day for the Marathi film industry as veteran actor Jayant Sawarkar, known for his unparalleled work in Marathi and Hindi cinema, breathed his last on Monday morning, July 24.
The late actor was being treated at a private hospital in Mumbai's Thane area. The news was confirmed by his son, Kaustubh Savarkar, who informed the media that he passed away due to age-related issues. He was 88.

Speaking to the new agency PTI, Sawarkar's son Kaustubh said, "He was admitted to a hospital due to low blood pressure about 10-15 days ago in Thane. Suddenly, his health deteriorated last night. He was put on ventilator and he passed away around 11 am due to age-related issues."
Jayant Sawarkar has worked in over 100 Marathi theater plays, while he has been a part of over 300 Hindi films.
Who was Jayant Sawarkar?
The late Jayant Savarkar was the President of the 97th All India Marathi Theatre Conference. Not only in movies, Jayant has appeared in many TV serials and web series as well. He was born in Guhagar, a town in Maharashtra, on May 3, 1936.
Jayant Sawarkar's film career
Sawarkar began his career in the entertainment industry at the very young age of 20 as a backstage artist in Marathi theatre, and later got an opportunity to act in celebrated playwright Vijay Tendulkar's stage production titled "Manus Navache Bet".
Some of the plays in which he acted include "Aparadh Meich Kela" (Gole Master), "Apurankank," "Alibaba Chalis Chor," "Aladdin Jaducha Diva," "Aamhi Jagato Befam," "Ekach Pyala."
In a career spanning six decades, Jayant had also acted in many popular Hindi and Marathi films like "Hari Om Vithala", "Gadbad Gondhal", "66 Sadashiv" and "Bakaal", as well as "Yugpurush", "Vaastav", and "Singham".
The veteran actor was seen in the role of an astrologer in the Marathi-language web series Samantar, which was released in 2020. It also features Swapnil Joshi in the lead role.

Jayant Sawarkar, in 2021, was honoured with the Jeevan Gaurav Award by the Ambarnath Marathi Film Festival (also known as AMFF). He has also been awarded the Natvarya Prabhakar Panshikar Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of Maharashtra in the field of theatre.
