The 95th Academy awards were really special for India, as Naatu Naatu from RRR won in the Best Original Song category and Guneet Monga's The Elephant Whisperers became the Best Documentary Short Film. While MM Keeravani accepted the award for the iconic song Naatu Naatu and thanked SS Rajamouli in his acceptance speech, Guneet was not given the opportunity for her acceptance speech. The Academy Awards were widely criticized after the video of the same from the big Oscar day went viral on social media.
MM KEERAVANI TALKS ABOUT GUNEET MONGA NOT GIVEN TIME FOR ACCEPTANCE SPEECH
MM Keeravaani recently addressed the issue during his interview with Galatta Plus. The composer revealed what happened backstage after Guneet wasn't given time to speak. He was quoted as saying, "The universe was listening to my prayers, and it happened. Which left me in not great excitement. But it was exciting only, but not to an extent where you go breathless, like the other award winner-Guneet Monga."
He further added, "She was not given time to speak her words, so she went breathless, and she was hospitalised also."
GUNEET MONGA EXPRESSED SHOCK
Earlier, Guneet had expressed shock at her speech being cut short at the 95th Academy Awards. She said that there was a shock on her face. "I just wanted to say it's India's first Oscar in Indian production, which is such a huge thing. My heart started racing as I couldn't have come so far and not be heard."
She further added that "People are so offended that I did not get the chance to deliver my speech. This was India's moment taken away from me. I'll go back there, and I will make sure I'm heard." She was quoted as saying by the Bombay Times.
Guneet Monga is now back in the country. She was received at the airport among so much frenzy. She flaunted her trophy as she posed for paps. She was quoted as saying by ANI, "We had a big competition. There was another film in our category supported by Malala Yousazai. Our film worked across countries, ages... the kind of love we are getting from across the world, the film worked its magic."
