Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway day 1 box office collection: Rani Mukerjee marks the much-anticipated return to the box office with Ashima Chibber's legal drama, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway. The film underlines the gut-wrenching plight of an Indian mother who fights against all odds to get the custody of her children, who are snatched away from her by the Norway Children's Welfare Program. Amid rave reviews by critics and celebs, the film was released today, March 17 in the theaters.

The film was released today amid much buzz. The intriguing trailer of the film moved the cine lovers to tears. Fans were waiting with bated breath for the Rani Mukerji starrer legal drama. The early reviews indicated that the film will have a decent start at the box-office window. As per reports in Sacnilk, Mrs Chatterjee may earn around 2 crores in India on the day of release.

The movie opened at 5.17% occupancy in the morning shows and went to 9.68% occupancy during the afternoon shows. The evening shows are expected to have 11.22% occupancy.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh earlier revealed that the filmmakers have opted for a strategic release plan. In a tweet, he wrote, "MRS CHATTERJEE VS NORWAY' SCREEN COUNT... Team #MrsChatterjeeVsNorway - starring #RaniMukerji - opt for a strategic release plan... Release #MCVN at 1,045 screens worldwide... #India: 535 screens [120 cities] #Overseas: 510 screens [43 countries]... Smart move by the makers."

Meanwhile, the film is based on the true story of an Indian couple, Sagarika Chakraborty and Anurup Bhattacharya. It is the adaptation of Sagarika's autobiography titled 'The Journey of a Mother'. Sagarika's children were taken away from by the Norwegian Childcare System in 2011, on account of bad parenting.

Talking about the film, Rani earlier said, "The film resonates with one emotion which is the mother's emotion. This movie is a reminder to all children in the world that there's no greater emotion or relationship than with a mother."
