Kangana
Ranaut-Javed
Akhtar
Case
Update:
In
the
latest
development,
a
Mumbai
sessions
court
has
taken
a
significant
step
in
the
legal
battle
between
writer-lyricist
Javed
Akhtar
and
Bollywood
actress
Kangana
Ranaut.
The
court
has
reportedly
issued
a
notice
to
Kangana
Ranaut.
After
Javed
Akhtar
filed
an
application
challenging
the
summons
issued
to
him
by
a
magistrate
court,
the
court
directed
Ranaut
to
submit
a
reply.
This
development
comes
in
response
to
an
alleged
criminal
intimidation
case
filed
by
Ranaut
against
Akhtar.
As
per
media
reports,
Javed
Akhtar
lodged
a
revision
petition
before
the
sessions
court.
Akhtar's
petition
asserts
that
the
summons
issued
to
him
by
the
magistrate
court
was
done
'hastily
and
inappropriately',
leading
to
what
he
claims
is
a
'grave
miscarriage
of
justice.'
In
the
petition,
filed
through
his
advocate,
Akhtar
asserts
that
there
is
a
lack
of
substantial
evidence
on
the
judicial
record
to
support
the
magistrate's
order.
The
petition
argues,
"The
magistrate
simply
proceeded
on
the
bald
and
unsubstantiated
averments
made
in
the
complaint
without
ascertaining
the
overall
factual
matrix
and
the
judicial
record."
Akhtar's
legal
team
further
asserts
that
the
magistrate
failed
to
recognize
the
potential
serious
prejudice
that
might
arise
if
he
were
to
undergo
trial
in
a
time-barred
case
where
the
sections
alleged
in
the
complaint
are
not
appropriately
applicable.
In
light
of
these
developments,
the
Additional
Sessions
Judge
has
adjourned
the
matter
to
August
24,
allowing
both
parties
additional
time
to
prepare
their
arguments
and
responses.
The
feud
between
Javed
Akhtar
and
Kangana
Ranaut
began
when
Akhtar
filed
a
complaint
against
the
acclaimed
actress
for
making
defamatory
statements
against
him
during
a
television
interview.
Later,
Kangana
Ranaut
filed
a
counter-complaint
against
Akhtar
for
alleged
'extortion
and
criminal
intimidation.'
The
counter-complaint
is
from
a
meeting
between
the
two
individuals
at
Akhtar's
residence.
