For the unversed, the train crash that took place on Friday in Odisha stands as one of the deadliest accidents of its kind since India's independence. However, it is worth noting that the country has witnessed other tragic train accidents in its history. On June 6, 1981, India experienced its most severe train accident when a train plunged into the Bagmati River while crossing a bridge, losing over 750 lives.
Another significant incident occurred on August 20, 1995, when the Purushottam Express collided with the stationary Kalindi Express near Firozabad, claiming approximately 305 lives as per official records.
