Oscars 2024 Fim Selection: In an exciting development for cinema enthusiasts, the process to determine India's official entry for the Oscars 2024 has begun. The lineup for the 2024 Academy Awards is packed with highly anticipated films.

The year 2023 has been phenomenal for Hindi cinema, as numerous Bollywood films entered the coveted Rs 100 crore mark worldwide and shattered box office records. Now, these cinematic achievements are vying for recognition at the 96th Academy Awards, slated for March 10, 2024.

Earlier this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed the date for the 96th edition of the award ceremony. To initiate the selection process, the Academy has set the submission deadline for general categories on November 18, 2023.

LIST OF INDIAN FILMS FOR OSCARS 2024 NOMINATIONS

According to reports by Hindustan Times, a 17-member committee, headed by filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli, has been formed to evaluate films through screenings in Chennai. The committee has reportedly received more than 22 entries from across India.

As per a source, the news portal reported, "Some of the films, which have been sent to the Film Federation of India for Oscar selection, include names such as Anant Mahadevan's The Storyteller (Hindi), Music School (Hindi), Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway (Hindi), 12th Fail (Hindi), Viduthalai Part 1 (Tamil), Ghoomer (Hindi), and Dasara (Telugu)."

The source further told, "The list might have additions such as Vaalvi (Marathi), Gadar 2 (Hindi), Ab Toh Sab Bhagwan Bharose (Hindi), and Baap Lyok (Marathi). We have received their application, but are waiting for the fees."

The source also revealed that the decision regarding India's official entry to the Oscars 2024 is expected to be announced later this month. "The screening started yesterday, and would take a week as there is a huge pool of films to be watched and then they will decide. We can expect an announcement about the official entry from India next week."

Meanwhile, this year, India clinched two Oscars. The song Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli's RRR won in the Best Original Song category at the 95th Academy Awards, while Guneet Monga's The Elephant Whisperers secured the Best Documentary (Short Subject) award.
