Ayesha Omar Calls Pakistan Unsafe For Women: Pakistani actor Ayesha Omar, who in the past made headlines for her alleged relationship with cricketer Shoaib Malik, is again trending for voicing her concerns about the safety of women in the neighbouring nation.

In a conversation on the Adnan Faisal Podcast, Ms Omar also recalled her encounter with harassment at a young age, highlighting the issue of females feeling unsafe on the streets.

Ayesha stated that it was only during the Covid-19 lockdown that women could go outside. She said, "I feel stressed and anxious in Karachi and I just don't feel safe, and I don't think many women do."

The Express Tribune quoted the actress from the podcast: "I don't feel safe here. I want to be able to walk on the road. It's a basic human need to be able to walk outside in the open air. All these women in your office, can you guys walk on the street? Isn't that sad? I don't want to sit in a car. I want to cycle. Why can't I ride a bike?"

She went on to emphasise that men cannot understand what women go through every day in Pakistan. She added, "As much as you try, you cannot. Because that fear that a woman has in this country - sure, he who has daughters may understand. Being in a woman's shoes and understanding that is impossible. You're anxious every second".

She also stated that she felt much safer in Lahore than in Karachi when she was in college and that she used to commute on public transport. Sharing her experience of living in Karachi, the diva said that she has been mugged twice.

"You are not even safe in your home. Crime happens in every country, but you can still go out and walk freely. I can't even go to a park [in Pakistan] without being harassed," she added.

She asked, "When will the time come when I can roam freely in my country?" She continued saying, "Without the fear of being kidnapped, without the fear of being raped, without the fear of being mugged. It's a basic human need. Freedom and safety."
