'No Camps Should Rule Casting': Priyanka Chopra Opens Up On Ways To Make Bollywood Safe For Outsiders

Priyanka Chopra Citadel: Priyanka Chopra made headlines last month as she opened up on the politics in Bollywood, due to which she chose to move to the West. The global icon is currently gearing up for the highly anticipated project, Citadel.
During a recent interaction with IndianExpress.com, PeeCee advocated for the elimination of politics and drama from the Bollywood industry and to create a positive work environment for outsiders.
She even acknowledged the fact that the industry has witnessed a lot of change in the last 5-10 years, as there are several new faces that have emerged in the Hindi film industry.
PRIYANKA CHOPRA ADVOCATES MERIT-BASED CASTING
Priyanka Chopra was quoted as saying by the entertainment portal as "I think having conversations around opportunity and merit is important. Now that we are living in the world of streaming, there is so much more. The Hindi film industry has changed so much in the last five to ten years. You have so many talent - writers, directors, actors that come from outside the industry. When I first started, that was not the case, at all."
Priyanka further emphasized merit-based casting for the workplace rather than politics and drama. "So I think having conversations around the fact that the workplace should be merit-based, that the workplace should be a positive environment, that casting should be a casting director's job instead of the politics and the drama," the actor added.
PRIYANKA CHOPRA EMPHASIZED ON NEED FOR THE ELIMINATION OF 'CAMPS'
The actress emphasized the need for the elimination of camps that can influence casting and it should be done based on merit and audience choice.
She said, "I think having those conversations is really, really important so that there are no camps that actually rule casting and it is done because of merit and because of audiences wanting to watch people."
She added that today she is able to witness so many new faces in the Hindi cinema as the actors of her generation fought for it.
"I am so excited to be able to see so many new faces from outside (of the film industry) and different parts of the country who have come in to mainstream Hindi language entertainment. It gives me such a joy, to be able to see that in my own career. And that happened because my generation of actors fought for it," PeeCee added.
