Sameer Khakhar death: Noted veteran actor Sameer Khakhar, best known for playing a Khopdi in Doordarshan's serial Nukkad, passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 71. His younger brother, Ganesh Khakhar, informed the media that he was suffering from respiratory illness and other medical conditions that worsened on Tuesday, leading to his demise. "Yesterday afternoon he was not feeling well, he was unconscious. On Tuesday (March 14), he was taken to the hospital," Sameer's brother said. Meanwhile, celebrities from the film and television industries have taken to social media to mourn his demise and pay tribute.

Sameer's younger brother, in an interview with the ETimes, said, "He was suffering from respiratory issues, then he went to sleep and went unconscious. We called the doctor and he suggested that we admit him in the hospital. His heart was not working properly and had urinary issues too. He was kept on ventilator, gradually he collapsed at 4:30 am this morning." He was admitted to MM Hospital in Borivali, where he breathed his last while his funeral took place on Wednesday morning. Paying tribute to Sameer filmmaker Handal Mehta tweeted: "For some reason I was nicknamed Khopdi in college after his iconic character in Nukkad. My closest friends from the time still call me Khopdi. But I guess it's time to say goodbye to the OG. Goodbye Sameer Khakhar. Thank you for the memories."
