Shabana
Azmi
Masoom
The
Next
Generation:
Renowned
film
director
Shekhar
Kapur,
made
his
Bollywood
debut
with
the
1983
movie
Masoom.
The
film
was
revered
as
a
cult
in
Indian
cinema
and
went
on
to
become
one
of
the
most
successful
back
then.
And
now,
Shekar
Kapur
is
actively
working
on
a
follow-up
to
the
movie,
which
is
titled
'Masoom...
The
Next
Generation'.
Though
not
much
is
known
yet
about
the
sequel,
the
filmmaker
was
recently
in
the
news
for
working
on
the
music
for
this
much-awaited
sequel.
Is
Shabana
Azmi
going
to
be
a
part
of
'Masoom...The
Next
Generation'?
Masoom
starred
Shabana
Azmi
and
Naseeruddin
Shah
in
lead
roles.
It
also
starred
Urmila
Matondkar,
Satish
Kaushik,
Supriya
Pathak,
Jugal
Hansraj,
Saeed
Jaffrey,
Aradhna
Srivastav,
Tanuja,
Paidi
Jairaj,
and
Malvika
Singh.
The
auteur's
recent
post
on
social
media
has
people
wondering
if
Shabana
Azmi
is
also
going
to
be
a
part
of
the
sequel
too.
Sharing
a
photo
of
Shabana,
Kapoor
revealed
that
she
asked
him
to
narrate
the
story
of
the
film.
He
started
his
post
by
saying:
"Can
you
narrate
your
script/story
to
us?'
Simple
request
right
?
Sounds
simple.
But
for
me
-
and
am
sure
for
other
passionate
artists-
my
script
lies
in
what
I
call
the
'Zone'."
He
added
in
his
post,
"So
when
Shabana
Azmi
asked
me
to
at
least
tell
the
story
of
'Masoom,
the
next
Generation'
I
balked.
I
hesitated
..
I
was
in
London
and
she
on
the
other
end
of
the
phone
in
Mumbai."
Kapur's
contributions
to
Indian
cinema
are
immense.
He
not
only
shaped
the
Indian
landscape
but
also
took
it
to
the
international
stage
with
his
films
like
Elizabeth
and
Elizabeth:
The
Golden
Age,
which
won
Oscar
Awards.
His
vision
for
spotting
talent
has
a
proven
track
record,
having
worked
with
actors
such
as
Cate
Blanchett,
Eddie
Redmayne,
and
Heath
Ledger
before
they
were
discovered
by
mainstream
cinema.
Talking
about
Masoom,
the
film's
synopsis
read:
"Devendra
Kumar's
family
life
is
disrupted
when
he
discovers
he
has
an
illegitimate
child
from
a
past
affair.
He
brings
the
young
boy,
Rahul,
home,
but
his
wife,
Indu,
fails
to
accept
the
child."
