Is Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan Copied From Amitabh Bachchan's Aakhree Raasta? Here's What We Know

Jawan Copied From Aakhree Raasta

Jawan Copied From Aakhree Raasta: Shah Rukh Khan is riding high on the success of his recently released film Jawan, which is also his second hit of 2023.

The superstar and Tamil filmmaker Atlee's maiden collaboration has achieved a historic feat by becoming the highest-grossing opening film in Hindi cinema history. It is also breaking records every day.

In the Atlee-directed film, Shah Rukh Khan is seen portraying six different characters and marks lady superstar Nayathara's Bollywood debut. As the film continues to generate buzz, it is also being accused of copying from other films.

Is Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan copied from Amitabh Bachchan's Aakhree Raasta?

Many fans have alleged that Jawan's certain key plot points have been inspired by Amitabh Bachchan's 80s hit movie Aakhree Raasta. Viewers noticed some similarities between the two films, as both share a common theme of a son seeking justice for his tarnished father.

Another intriguing coincidence is that both movies have the protagonist playing the role of a police officer. Speaking to ETimes, film analyst and historian Dilip Thakur explained the similarities between Jawan and Aakhree Raasta.

He said, "Aakhree Raasta's plot revolved around a father and son. Jaya Prada was the heroine of the film. In the film, Tinu Anand, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Kader Khan try to harass Jaya Prada and as a result of which she dies. Amitabh Bachchan's character becomes old and his son (young Amitabh) becomes a police inspector."

He then added, "The old Amitabh takes his revenge step by step. The young inspector Amitabh tries to investigate who is the killer. That was the story." However, he maintains that leaving the obvious similarities both films are distinctly different.

Jawan copied from the Tamil movie Thaai Naadu

A few days ago, many on social media pointed out that Jawan had plot similarities with a Tamil movie titled Thaai Naadu, which was released in 1989.

On X (formerly called Twitter), a user alleged that Thaai Naadu (motherland), which starred Sathyaraj in dual roles, is close to Shah Rukh Khan playing father and son characters in Jawan. Sharing the poster of the film, the user wrote, "Jawaan Original Tamil Version - 1989."

Speaking about Aakhree Raasta, the film was directed by K. Bhagyaraj and also starred Sridevi, Jaya Prada, Anupam Kher, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in key roles.

Jawan also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Sanya Malhotra, Priyamani, Sunil Grover, and Ridhi Dogra, among others. It was released in cinemas in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, and the film is backed by Gauri Khan and Red Chillies Entertainment.
