WHY CELEBS LOST THEIR 'LEGACY' VERIFIED CHECKMARKS
The Twitter blue ticks were launched last year after Elon Musk bought the social media platform for $44bn, after which he levied a monthly charge of $8. The payment for the Twitter Blue tick, which costs USD 8/month via the web and USD 11/per month can be made through the in-app payment on iOS and Android. The individuals will have the privilege of blue checkmarks if they pay the monthly subscription charge.
HOW TO GET TWITTER BLUE TICKS?
The micro-blogging laid down certain rules for individuals who wish to get their profiles verified. As per the rules, the individual account should be active in the past 30 days, in order to be eligible for the blue tick. The blue tick will be granted to the accounts which have a verified mobile number and does not have signs of being deceptive or misleading.
In March this year, a tweet from Twitter's official handle read, "On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue."
