Dunki: Is Shah Rukh Khan's Movie Based On ‘Donkey-Flight' & Illegal Immigration? Here's What We Know

Dunki Story: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is on a winning streak this year, with two blockbusters-Pathan and Jawan-to his credit. Meanwhile, the star is awaiting another release, Dunki, which is slated to hit theatres on December 22, 2023.

While fans are eagerly waiting for the movie's release, Dunki marks the first collaboration between Shah Rukh and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani. Hirani is known for delivering superhit films such as 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai MBBS, and others.

Meanwhile, recently, a report suggested what possibly could be the story of the film.

Earlier, it was reported that Dunki's story centres around migrants who are in search of a better life and their problems. Meanwhile, amid the ongoing tensions between India-Canada relations, there were reports that claimed the film's story is based on 'Donkey Flight', a border immigration issue.

And now, Indian Today's latest report suggests that these reports are inaccurate and that Dunki's story has nothing to do with Canada. Quoting a source, the outlet said, "While the film does deal with the issue of immigration, it isn't based in Canada or has anything to do with Indians based in Canada."

"It is a very sensitively made film that deals with a man's journey of trying to find a better way of life and the various emotions he goes through while doing so," the report said.

But what is Donkey Flight? The term is referred to as the illegal method, a backdoor route usually adopted by immigrants to enter a foreign country via multiple stops in other countries as a result of their failure to get a pass in their target nation via legitimate means.

The announcement video of Dunki also showed a number of people seen walking in a desert, apparently attempting to cross a border while a plane flies above them.

Talking about the film, SRK had earlier said, "Raj Kumar Hirani is one of the finest filmmakers of this generation, we have always spoken about working together and I am extremely happy we are finally doing it with Dunki. We have just started shooting this month and I am cherishing every moment of it. Raju ke liye main Donkey, Monkey...kuch bhi ban sakta hoon!"

Dunki stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, and Satish Kaushik in important roles.
