Shefali Shah Recalls A HORRIFIC Incident of ‘Being Touched Inappropriately’ In A Market; ‘You feel shameful…’

The woman of substance, Shefali Shah is known for not mincing her words when it comes to opening up on issues especially related to women. The versatile actor who has impressed one and all with her two-decade-long career recently opened up on getting 'inappropriately touched' in a crowded market.

Shefali was recently in talks with Smita Prakash about her critically acclaimed performance in the film Monsoon Wedding, helmed by Mira Nair. The film sees Shefali essaying the role of Ria Verma who was sexually abused as a child. During the podcast conversation, the actress even shared her own horrific experiences where she was sexually harassed. She was quoted as saying, "Everyone's gone through it. I remember walking into a crowded market, being touched inappropriately, and feeling crap about it. And, never ever saying anything because I wouldn't say it was guilt but it's just...shameful."
To this host, Smita adds that the victims wonder what they do to invite such actions. To this, the actress responds, "Yes. I agree with you. A lot of people think, did I do anything? You feel guilty, and shameful and you feel 'bhool jao (forget it). Shove it under the carpet kind of thing'. Honestly, I don't think I gave it so much thought that it's an important conversation to speak. It was just something that struck straight inside me and the entire film."
Meanwhile, Monsoon Wedding, the Bafta-awardee film also starred Naseeruddin Shah, Lillete Dubey, Vasundhara Das, Randeep Hooda, Vijay Raaz, Rajat Kapoor, and Soni Razdan among others.
