Amitabh-Dharmendra's Sholay Accused Of Copying Scenes From Hollywood Films; Leaves Fans In Anguish | WATCH

 Sholay Copied Scenes

Sholay Copied Scenes: "Sholay", released in 1975, is counted among the cult movies to ever come out of Bollywood. It is a cinematic masterpiece that perfectly blends several human emotions and enjoyed resounding success at the local box office.

However, it's worth noting that several scenes in the movie were influenced by and replicated from various Hollywood films. Recently, actor Adil Hussain shared a video that proves Sholay's iconic scene where Gabbar (Amjad Khan) shoots down the entire family of Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) to be lifted from an iconic Hollywood film, which has sparked a debate online.

Sholay's popular scenes are lifted from Hollywood western films

Revealing Ramesh Sippy's iconic massacre scene from "Sholay," where Gabbar Singh kills every member of Thakur's family, Adil Hussain shared a video on X, previously known as Twitter, and wrote, "Ha ha, who would have thought that portions of the most watched/admired films in India will be a copy of this film below. Probably you already knew that? But (I) didn't."

The scene in question is from Sergio Leone's iconic Spaghetti Western "Once Upon A Time In The West" which was released in 1968, seven years before Sholay. The McBains massacre scene is identical to Sholay's memorable shoot down sequence.

Adil Hussain's post garnered numerous responses, including from individuals previously unaware of this information. Some contributed additional interesting facts-for instance, they revealed that director Sergio Leone contemplated retiring from crafting Westerns but had the desire to create one last film in the genre, with Henry Fonda portraying a villainous character (akin to Gabbar Singh).

Another person highlighted the fact that Sergio Leone himself drew inspiration from Akiro Kurosawa's samurai movies. While a few added a few more scenes and songs that were lifted from several Hollywood films.

Reacting to Sholay's copied scene clip, many expressed shock. One said, "N they crib that they dont get oscar!!! Copy masters." While another wrote, "Correction- #Bollywood shouts over the roof that piracy killing it. (laughing with tears emoji)."

Another user pointed out how Once Upon A Time in the West itself is inspired by Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese epic Seven Samurai. One commented, "'Badass hit team protecting a village' is a theme inspired by Kurosawa's Seven Samurai in the film industry of every language."

"Sir, Sergio Leone himself was heavily inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Samurai films." But a third user rebutted the argument by writing, "To inspire and to plagiarize. How different!" said one user.

Directed by Ramesh Sippy, "Sholay" is regarded as a landmark in Indian cinema. Many of its scenes have been inspired by multiple Hollywood western films. Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra as Jai and Veeru, this is similar to the roles played by Charles Bronson and Jason Lombard in "Once Upon A Time In The West."
