A Look Back At The Not So-Easy Love Story Of Sridevi And Boney Kapoor

Bollywood's celebrated actress, Sridevi's death news came as a shock to all the cine lovers. The superstar passed away on February 24, 2018, at the age of 54 in Dubai. She lost her life in a tragic drowning incident while she was at the wedding of her nephew, Mohit Marwah. The actress left behind her husband, Boney Kapoor, daughters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor and an ocean of memories.

While the world remembers the iconic star on her fifth death anniversary, her husband, Boney Kapoor shared a picture on social media that was unfortunately the last pic he had with her late wife. The picture is from the wedding they were attending, and Sridevi looked breathtaking in a green and gold ethnic ensemble at the do!

Now, today as we talk about the late actress and her husband, let's take a look at the love story of the adorable duo, who enjoyed marital bliss for over two decades before getting separated by fate!

Boney Kapoor's Love For Sridevi

Boney Kapoor, in 2013 attended the India Today Woman Summit where he recalled how he was in awe of her on-screen power. Boney recalled that he first saw her in a Tamil film in the late 1970s, however, they only met in-person during Mr India. Describing their first meeting as a 'dream come true', he said her first few words in broken Hindi and broken English had touched him and he got curious to know more about her. Mr India starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri was produced by Boney Kapoor.

Back then, Boney Kapoor, said Sridevi's mother used to handle her professional meetings. By the time Boney had approached her for Mr India, Sridevi was one of the highest paid female actors and was getting 8-8.5 lakhs for her films. So, her mother quoted a figure of 10 lakh.

He said that he heard the figure and said he will pay 11 lakhs. He revealed that this was his way to getting close to her mother.

During the shoot of the film, he made sure she was comfortable and even went an extra mile to pamper her in order to impress her. Boney Kapoor said that he got more and more affected by the actress every time he met her. But he was married.

He said "I was married then. In fact, I had confessed to my ex-wife that I'm in love with her. I couldn't hold myself back," he admitted.

Boney Kapoor said that his efforts were later realized by Sridevi and slowly she had started reciprocating his love. "She saw that this man is too persistent and perhaps realized that I was sincere and not looking for a fling. Somehow, things fell in place," he said.

Boney Kapoor's First Wife, Mona's Statement On His Love Affair

Talking about their love affair, Mona, the first wife of Boney Kapoor and mother of Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor in an interview had said that "He (Boney) was 10 years older to me. I was 19 when I married him. So, I literally grew up with him. Ours was a 13-year-old marriage. So, it came as a shock when I realized that my husband was in love with somebody else... There was nothing left in the relationship to give it a chance because Sridevi was already with a child."

Sridevi and Boney Kapoor went through a tough time while in love and had experienced their share of ups and downs.

Back then, the Chandani actress was seen as the other woman and a home-breaker.

Sridevi had once talked about falling in love with Boney Kapoor and said, "I fell in love with him when I got to know the real him. It was difficult, traumatic even and it took me many years to finally accept the fact that I was destined to be with Boney. In hindsight, I only wish that I had realized and accepted his love for me sooner. I always believe in following my heart and I am glad that I did. My parents had passed away by then and my sister was shocked with my decision. But now, she shares a great relationship with my husband and is convinced that he is the best thing that ever happened to me!"

Boney Kapoor and Sridevi got married in 1996, after Sridevi's father passed away due to cancer and he stood by her family like a rock.
