‘The Kerala Story' Makers Accuses Film Industry Of Conspiracy As Film Finds It Hard To Crack OTT Deal

The Kerala Story: Sudipto Sen directed The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma in the lead, emerged as one of the biggest hits of 2023. The film shattered numerous box office records, but it also landed in several controversies for its sensitive and prejudiced portrayal of religious conversions, ISIS, and love jihad.

The film was initially banned in West Bengal, and several theatres in Tamil Nadu refused to screen it. And now, after several weeks since its release, the makers of The Kerala Story are finding it hard to crack a deal on the OTT platforms.

The Kerala Story finds it hard to crack an OTT deal

The Kerala Story makers are encountering difficulties in finding an online streaming platform interested in acquiring the film. The film was released on May 5 and went on to have a successful run at the box office due to its controversial subject.

Apparently, The Kerala Story is finding it difficult to find a suitable deal from an OTT platform. Recently, reports said that the film will start streaming online, but director Sudipto Sen has said that they haven't received any favourable offers for the OTT streaming rights.

Sudipto Sen accuses the film industry of conspiracy

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama in an interview, Sudipto Sen said, "We still haven't got a suitable offer from any OTT platform for The Kerala Story," adding, "We are still waiting for a good workable deal from any of the main OTT platforms. But so far, we have not got any offer worth considering. It seems the film industry has ganged up to punish us."

When asked why they think they are being conspired against, Sudipto stated: "Our box office success has irked many sections of the film industry. We have a feeling that a section of the entertainment industry has united to punish us for our success."

The Kerala Story revolves around a Hindu woman from Kerala state, played by Adah Sharma, who gets brainwashed to embrace Islam and is sent to Syria, where she is forced to join the ISIS terror camps.
