Veteran Rakhee Gulzar Is Returning To Bengali Cinema After 2 Decades With Nandita Roy's Amar Boss

Rakhee Gulzar Comeback: After a hiatus, the legendary Rakhee Gulzar is set to grace Bengali cinema once again, showcasing her brilliance on the silver screen. Her last appearance in a Bengal theater was in Rituparno Ghosh's 'Shubho Mahurat' (2003), while she was featured in Gautam Halder's 'Nirban,' an acclaimed film that toured various film festivals in 2019 without a theatrical release.
As she gears up for 'Amar Boss,' directed by Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee, where she will play the protagonist alongside Shiboprosad and Srabanti Chatterjee, it marks two decades since her last Bengali film.
'Nirban' earned a spot in the Indian Panorama section of the 50th edition of the International Film Festival of India and later screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2019. Rakhee's return to the big screen in Bengal has been eagerly awaited, and filming for 'Amar Boss' is scheduled to commence on January 3.
Reflecting on her tranquil life in Panvel during KIFF (2019), Rakhee shared her experiences of exploring Kolkata anonymously and enjoying the local markets, expressing delight in moving around without much recognition. Known for her selectiveness, she spoke about having no regrets about her choices and praised her favorite director, Tapan Sinha.
Nandita Roy expressed her excitement about collaborating with Rakhee Gulzar, stating, "I have great regards for Rakhee di and wanted to work with her for a long time. Amar Boss was conceived keeping her in mind. We are delighted about getting this opportunity to work with her."
Notably, Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee's Puja film, 'Raktabeej,' marked the successful comeback of another veteran actor, Victor Banerjee, and is set to complete 50 days in theaters soon. The anticipation for Rakhee's return to Bengali cinema with 'Amar Boss' is high, adding another chapter to her illustrious career on the silver screen.
