Bishan Singh Bedi, known for his artistry in spin bowling, had been battling health issues for quite some time now. He had undergone a surgical procedure two weeks prior to his demise and had been under medical care in Delhi since then, according to a close source to the family.

Bishan Singh Bedi's Cricket Legacy

Bishan Singh Bedi who was born in Amritsar, India, on September 25, 1946, was a prominent figure in the world of Indian cricket. He played a pivotal role in popularizing spin bowling in a country that initially idolized its batters. During his illustrious career, which spanned from 1967 to 1979, Bedi participated in 67 Test matches for India, amassing an impressive total of 266 wickets.

Bedi's impact wasn't confined to Test cricket alone; he also excelled in the limited-overs format, contributing significantly to India's first ODI victory. One of his remarkable achievements was captaining the Indian cricket team during the historic 1971 series against England when he took charge in the absence of the injured Ajit Wadekar.

His role in the 1975 World Cup was also commendable when his exceptional bowling figures of 12 overs, 8 runs, 6 wickets, and 1 run helped India restrict East Africa to a score of 120.

Bishan Singh Bedi also enjoyed a distinguished domestic cricket career, particularly with the Delhi team, and served as a mentor to several budding spin bowlers. After retiring from professional cricket, Bedi took the roles of a coach, commentator, and cricket administrator.
