Yesubai Bhonsale was the wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and mother of Shahu I. It is said that Yesubai has a big role keeping the Maratha empire strong and together. Sambhaji shared his power with the doting queen and Yesubai used to take all the political decisions by herself. After the execution of Sambhaji Maharaj by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Yesubai was kept captive, however during the time, she kept her dignity intact and didn't bow her head and didn't adhered to the terms of the Mughals. Later, she was released by them once Shahu's power was brought back in Maratha empire.
