Exclusive! Bejoy Nambiar On Not Working With Superstars In His Movies, "You Think I Don't Approach Them?"

Bejoy Nambiar is one of the best filmmakers we have in the industry. The filmmaker's recent film Dange was released on 1st March 2024, and it has received a positive response from the critics. While Nambiar has made some amazing movies, the only star that he is worked till now is the megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Big B was seen in Nambiar's Wazir. We mostly get to see relatively newcomers in his movies.

Filmibeat recently interacted with Bejoy and when asked him why he doesn't approach superstars for his movies, the filmmaker said, "You think I don't? I do, but they should also agree to work with me. Even for Dange, I had approahced kind of known people for it. But, they were not pretty sure whether they wanted to do a two-hero film or they were not sure if they wanted to be a part of an ensemble cast. So, that kind of things happen. It's not like I don't want to work with them. I would love to work with them, but they should also want to work with me."

While Bejoy is known for making serious films, last year, he surprised one and all, when he directed a slice-of-life Tamil series titled Sweet Kaaram Cofffee. When asked him, if he would like to explore the genre in movies, the filmmaker said, "I would love to. Karwaan was something I was going to direct because I really wanted to do an off-beat and slice of life film, but then Wazir happened, so I couldn't take up that film."

"But, having said that, when I get an opportunity like this, when Sweet Kaaram Coffee came, I just grabbed it because I get to do something and explore something that I usually don't do. So, as I filmmaker I am trying to be versatile, and diveser myself into all kinds of storytelling," he added.

Dange was Bejoy's theatrical release after a gap of seven years. The film hasn't done a great business at the box office, but has received good reviews.
