Emergency Movie Release Controversy: Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. Directed and headlined by the National Award winning actress-BJP MP, the movie is based on the darkest chapter of Indian democracy when an Emergency was declared by Indira Gandhi in 1975. The film features Kangana as Indira Gandhi, the former Prime Minister of India.
Ahead of the release, actress-BJP MP has claimed that her film is yet to receive the censor board certificate by the CBFC.

Headlined by Kangana Ranaut, the Emergency movie release controversy is getting even more intense with each passing day. On Friday evening (August 30), Kangana took to social media and claimed that her film is yet to receive the censor board certificate by the CBFC. To note, the film is slated to hit cinemas on 6th September 2024.
In a video shared by the actress' team on Twitter (X), Kangana claimed that the certification of Emergency has been put on hold as the members of CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) are receiving threats. She further alleged that she has been asked "not to show Indira Gandhi's assassination, not to show Bhindranwale, and not to show the Punjab riots."

In the video, Kangana is heard saying in Hindi, "There's a lot of rumours going around that our film 'Emergency' has received the censor certificate, but that is not true. Our film was cleared, but its certification has been halted because there are a lot of threats coming in. The censor board is receiving numerous threats. We are under pressure not to show Indira Gandhi's assassination, not to show Bhindranwale, and not to show the Punjab riots. I don't know what we are supposed to show then, that the film suddenly blacks out? This is an unbelievable time for me, and I am very sorry for the state of things in the country."

For those unversed, Harjinder Singh Dhami, the president of Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has demanded a ban on the film ahead of the release. Recently, the actress also received death threats from Punjabi influencer Viky Thomas Singh along with few other people over Emergency movie release.
