EXCLUSIVE | Ex-Bollywood Star Somy Ali Speaks About Her Crush On Singer Sonu Nigam: It’s A Bit Strange…

Somy Ali Exclusive: Somy Ali, a former Bollywood actress, continues to stay in the spotlight with her bold and candid statements that often go viral. Although she stepped away from the film industry many years ago, Somy has dedicated her life to activism. In 2007, she founded the non-profit organization No More Tears, which focuses on supporting victims of abuse and advocating for their rights. Her commitment to making a difference showcases her passion for creating meaningful change beyond the silver screen.
In between, Somy Ali also tried her hand as a host and did a YouTube podcast show called Just A Conversation. In a candid chat with Filmibeat, Somy Ali opened up about her fondness for singer Sonu Nigam and revealed she had a crush on the singer. Yes, you read that right!
SOMY ALI LOVED 'ACHA SILA DIYA' SONG AND HAD NO IDEA WHO WAS SONU NIGAM
Revealing she initially had no idea about who Sonu Nigam was, Somy Ali stated, "It's a bit strange because I used to love this song called Acha Sila Diya tune mere Pyar ka and had no clue who the singer was, but I loved the song as it covered the predicament I found myself to be in with no escape in sight. Actors usually don't bother with who our playback singers are nor do they care except a few who hold high regard for their craft and respect. Well, I happen to be one of those individuals and I get this from my mom. She loved Rafi Sahab, Kishoreda, Mukesh ji, Lata ji, Noor Jehan, and boy did those songs blast in our house since I was five all day long on her cassette player. My mom wanted to be a singer and she has a beautiful voice, but this was before she met my father. Then it was staying home or spending time with her friends. So, I too was curious as to who is this Sonu Nigam guy and started digging unbeknownst to him to date."
Calling him her biggest crush, she added, "I have had the biggest crush on him since the 90s, but he never knew nor did I want to know. Also, I have never met him neither did I bump into him at an event because I would be shooting three shifts and go straight home. I detested the film parties and loved two words the most, "pack up." Which means it's a wrap and time to go home. Progressively my crush on Sonu's talent grew and then four years ago I got his number from a friend and messaged asking him if he would come on an unknown show which would be posted on YouTube and Facebook which I titled 'Just A Conversation' and my co-host was and still is a phenomenal Indian American fashion designer, Anjali Pjougat. She is brilliantly great at what she does, absolutely beautiful, and we ended (up) interviewing quite a few people which included Sonu. Sonu graced us with his presence free of cost to my shock and was unimaginably humble. The interview went perfectly well. He even gave a shout-out to one of Anjali's relatives who had a birthday coming up."
SOMY ALI ON EXPERIENCE OF DOING THE PODCAST WITH SONU NIGAM
Talking about her experience of working with Sonu Nigam, Somy further said, "I was completely taken aback by his kindness and humility because people had told me he is extremely arrogant and walks around with a God complex. He doesn't do a thing for free and he's rude be it a woman or a man for no reason whatsoever. I always give people one chance to see for myself because unless I experience the same only then will I believe the others. Particularly in all film industries, there is a tendency to speak ill of others without knowing their circumstances. And I was right. He did the show for free. He was the nicest anyone could ever be. I requested him to sing a few lines of one of my mom's and my favorite Rafi Sagab's song and he obliged without hesitation."
"He was an absolute gentleman and it reinforced my understanding that never believe things people say about someone unless you have been treated the same way. Now this concept is only correlated to interviews, not other criminal acts. So to answer your question, sure, I have the biggest crush on him and I introduced his voice to my mom via his videos on YouTube and she says he has the cutest smile and his voice is phenomenal. She calls him beta which I find really funny as neither of us have ever met him. Either way, I also have a gargantuan crush on Shah Rukh and I love Gauri. Gauri is an extremely elegant and secure woman, not to mention stunning. There are no statute of limitations of having crushes on people more so if you are single and it's totally fine if it's one-sided. I find Shah Rukh to be the best we have and always will and I find Sonu to be the best we have and always will. And now you know who I have my biggest crushes on. No biggy! They are just crushes," she concluded.
