Divya Pahuja murder

Divya Pahuja murder: After more than 10 days of being shot dead in a Gurugram hotel, former model Divya Pahuja's dead body was recovered on Saturday from a Bhakra canal in the neighbouring state, Haryana's Tohana city.

According to a report by Gurugram police, the body was disposed of in the canal in Punjab's Moonak area. This development comes after one of the accused in Pahuja's murder, Balraj Gill, was arrested at Kolkata airport.

Divya Pahuja's dead body

27-year-old Pahuja was murdered on January 2, five months after she was released on bail, in connection with the alleged fake encounter of a Haryana-based gangster in a Mumbai hotel room in 2016.

Gurugram assistant commissioner of police (crime) Varun Kumar Dahiya said that Divya's body was found in the subsidiary canal of the Bhakra canal in Tohana, in Haryana's Fatehabad district. The cops further stated that photos of her body were sent to her family for identification and that it has been sent for an autopsy.

"The incident happened on January 1, and the body was dumped on January 2," said senior Gurgaon police officer Mukesh Kumar. "We identified the victim's body through her tattoos."

Accused Gill fled after dumping his vehicle near the bus stand; meanwhile, another accused Ravi Banga is still on the run.

"The accused in the murder of model Divya Pahuja, Balraj Gill, was taken into custody from Kolkata airport on Thursday. He had gone missing after abandoning his car near the Patiala bus stand. Ravi Banga, another accused, is still absconding," stated Varun Dahiya, Gurugram ACP (Crime).

Who was Divya Pahuja, and why was she killed?

Divya Pahuja is a former Delhi-based model. She was shot dead by hotel owner Abhijeet Singh in Gurugram earlier this month. With the help of two others, they dragged her body into a car and dumped it in Patiala.

She was killed because she had allegedly been extorting money from the hotel owner by blackmailing him with his "obscene pictures," said the police.

Meanwhile, police has claimed that the crime branch has formed a six-member SIT team for the investigation of the case.
