IFFI 2024: AR Rahman Looks Distressed As He Makes His First Appearance Post Separation With Saira Banu

AR Rahman and Saira Banu have announced their separation after 29 years of marriage, requesting privacy during this emotional period. Both have emphasised mutual respect and dispelled unfounded rumours regarding their split.

A week after AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, made public their decision to go their separate ways, the celebrated Oscar-winning composer made his first appearance. He was seen at the 55th edition of the IFFI Goa International Film Festival, also known as IFFI 2024, in Goa. Rahman, renowned for his work on 'Slumdog Millionaire,' was attending a session dedicated to 'Lata Mangeshkar Memorial Talk: Musical Theatre in India’. Upon leaving the session, Rahman, looking visibly distraught, chose not to interact with the media or his fans. Nonetheless, before entering his car, he acknowledged his fans with a wave and then departed. A video capturing this moment has subsequently been circulated widely online.

Following decades of marriage, AR Rahman and Saira Banu decided to part ways, a decision disclosed through a joint statement released by their lawyer. The statement highlighted the emotional toll their relationship had endured, leading to a significant rift that they felt was beyond reconciliation at this juncture. Despite their profound affection for one another, the mounting tension and challenges proved too great to overcome. During this period of transition, the couple has appealed for privacy and understanding from the public.

Saira Banu has since clarified her decision to relocate to Mumbai, attributing it to medical reasons and the need for a hiatus from Rahman due to her health concerns. In a heartfelt audio message, she dispelled any negative speculation about Rahman, praising his character and expressing her unwavering trust in him. She implored the media and the public to refrain from spreading baseless rumors and to respect their privacy during this challenging time.

Coinciding with Rahman and Banu's announcement, Mohini Dey, Rahman's bass guitarist, also revealed her separation, sparking rumors of a connection between the two events. However, Rahman, Banu, and Dey have firmly dismissed such speculations. Rahman has gone as far as threatening legal action against those perpetuating these unfounded claims, with Banu also coming to his defense.

In her defense of Rahman, Banu emphasized his integrity and the depth of their mutual affection, despite her health-induced departure from Chennai. She lamented the unwarranted tarnishing of Rahman's reputation and called for an end to the spread of false allegations, underscoring that no formal announcement had been made yet.

The split between Rahman and Banu, after 29 years of marriage, has brought their long-standing partnership to an end. The couple's request for privacy as they navigate this challenging phase of their lives underscores the personal nature of their decision, one made with heavy hearts. As they embark on separate paths, the public's focus shifts to respecting their wishes for discretion and understanding during this sensitive time.
