Jigra: Alia Bhatt's Jigra is already under the limelight ever since it was announced. On Sunday, the trailer of the movie has been released and the plot was unveiled that grabbed many eyeballs. While it was lauded by the critics and audience, it raised a big question whether the film, which revolves around the a sister saving his brother imprisoned in foreign, is an adaptation of a 90s movie that starred Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi having almost the same plot.
Alia Bhatt's Jigra Is Remake Of Sanjay Dutt Sridevi's Gumrah?
The teaser of Jigra shows how Alia Bhatt fought with all the odds to help her brother come out of prison. And to everyone's surprise, it is reported by Bollywood Hungama that the movie is an adaptation of 1993's film, Gumrah. The cult classic movie's plot revolves around two lovers, Sridevi and Sanjay Dutt, and the former going to a great extent to save her lover. To note more, Gumrah was direted by Alia Bhatt's father Mahesh Bhatt and it was bankrolled by Yash Johar.
However, unlike Gumrah, which revolves around two lovers, Jigra showcases the story of brother-sister. According to source close to the portal, "Jigra is an adaptation of the 1993 film Gumrah. It starred Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Rahul Roy and was the story of a man who went to insane lengths to save his lover, who was imprisoned in a foreign country. Jigra makers decided to remake Gumrah but with certain modifications. Two of the biggest changes they have made from the story of the original is that here it's the girl who's saving the boy. Also, instead of them being lovers, they are siblings."
Talking about securing rights, the source continued, "Securing the rights of Gumrah wasn't a problem. After all, it was produced by Dharma Productions, who have also produced Jigra. The scenario reminds one of Dharma Productions' Agneepath (1990) which was remade by Karan Johar in 2012 with Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt in the leading roles."
