Exclusive! Kartam Bhugtam Director Soham Shah On Luck & Squid Game Comparison, "10 Saal Baad Credit Mila..."

Kartam Bhugtam: Filmmaker Soham Shah made his directorial debut with Kaal in 2005. He later made Luck in 2009 with Imran Khan, Shruti Haasan, and Sanjay Dutt in the lead roles. When Luck was released in 2009, the film received mixed reviews from the critics, and was a flop at the box office. However, in 2021, the movie became the talk of the town after South Korean series Squid Game started streaming on Netflix.

Luck was about a group of people who participate in dangerous adventures and if their luck is good they win or they die. Well, Squid Game had a similar concept about a group of people playing different games, and if they don't win they die.

Squid Game had become a rage in 2021, but Indian audience quickly started comparing it with Soham's Luck, and on social media everyone was stating that before Korea, India had made a content like this.

Filmibeat recently interacted with Soham and when asked him, what he has to say about audiences recognising his work and saying that 'India did it first', the filmmaker said, "One fine day, I suddenly wake up and all my friends, assistants and people around me they start sending me these news, and people started interviewing me about this Squid Game thing. I genuinely felt very happy because it didn't work at the box office at that time, but 10 years later somewhere people are identifying it."

"Believe me, Indian audience is such that when something is ticked marked by some makers abroad, then they will give you more respect. So, NRI friends and NRI audience, they all were like 'Oh Soham you did Squid Game...' Chalo 10 saal baad credit mila, but achcha hai mila toh sahi, so you feel good," he added.

Shreyas Talpade, who will be seen in Soham's Kartam Bhugtam, further said, "It work or it didn't work, but no one has forgotten that film. It's not like, it just came and went; it stayed with you. It might not have worked at box office at that time, but somewhere and something must have stayed with people, and that's the reason why we are talking about it even after 10 years."

Talking about Kartam Bhugtam, the movie also stars Madhoo in a pivotal role and it will mark her Bollywood comeback. The movie is slated to release on 17th May 2024.
