Maa Kaali Teaser: Raima Sen starrer Maa Kaali teaser has been released on July 4th and the intriguing plot, based on the brutal partition of Bengal, unveils a haunting tale of 'the great Calcutta killing' or 'the Direct Action Day' which later resulted in the partition of India. The period drama also stars IAS officer turned actor Abhishek Singh alongside Raima Sen.

What Is Great Calcutta Killing?

Great Calcutta Killing or The Direct Action Day took place on August 16, 1946, when All-India Muslim League decided for a 'direct action' in order to get a separate homeland for muslims in the country after British exit from India. It led to nationwide communal riot followed by violence between Muslims and Hindus in Calcutta(Now Kolkata) in the Bengal province of British India. The four day, infamously known as the Week of Long Knives, riot resulted in 10,000 dead and 15,000 severely wounded.

Maa Kaali: Plot

The film is widely based on the haunting tale of the Calcutta Killing and the Noakhali massacres which later had a long-term brutal political consequences. The story sheds light to the erased history of Bengal and unveils the fact how Bengali Hindus faced the atrocities on the cusp of Independence which left a daunting mark even after almost eight decades.

Talking about this, the director, Vijay Yelakanti shared, "Although it is directly related to one of the most significant chapters of our modern Indian history, Direct Action Day continues to be an untold story of human suffering."

Helmed by Vijay Yelakanti, the film is bankrolled by TG Vishwa Prasad, the trilingual film, based on pre-partition turmoil of Bengal, will release in Hindi, Bengali, and Telugu. The makers claim to 'Unplug the earphones. Let the Truth be Heard, LOUD and CLEAR' as the teaser starts.
