Bhavana Menon is a famous actress in Kerala. She has predominantly appeared in Malayalam films, in addition to Kannada and Tamil films as well. She has appeared in several films like- Chithiram Pesuthadi, Daivanamathil, C.I.D. Moosa, Vilakkumaram, Tagaru, and many others. Bhavana has worked in more than 80 films.
According to the reports, Bhavana was traveling from Thrissur to Kochi in 2017. Back then, she was assaulted by a group of men. The case came into the limelight as Dileep, one of Bhavana's co-stars in half a dozen of her films, surfaced as one of the accused. Malayalam film star Dileep was arrested for 3 months and was rigorously questioned before being released on bail.
In 2002, Bhavana broke silence about the case and said to BBC, "I was just a normal fun-loving girl and then this one incident happened that turned my life upside down. Most people see the smiling photos I post on social media, but I have been to hell and back." The actress added, "I became this victim, this 'assaulted actress'. And for long, I kept asking, 'Why me?' I was blaming myself and I was looking for a way out."
The trial of Bhavana's case began in 2020 and the actress has to remember every tiny details about the incident. Bhavana revealed that while she was traveling from her hometown Thrissur to Kochi she was kidnapped and the attackers made the videos during the assault. Since Dileep was well known in the South entertainment industry many local channels questioned Bhavana and her claims about the actor. Questioning Bhavana's morality, some even called her out for "staging" the case.
"I was devastated, broken into a million pieces, all these things were very hurtful to me. I sometimes wanted to scream at the top of my lungs," said Bhavana. Talking about being accused of staging the case Bhavana said, "My dignity was snatched and then I was victim shamed."
