Exclusive! Pride Month Special: Munjya Actor Abhay Verma On Playing A Transgender In Safed, "I Am Proud Of It"

Munjya actor Abhay Verma has become the new National Crush. His performance in the film is being appreciated a lot. Munjya has become a super hit at the box office with a collection of around Rs. 80 crore. Before Munjya, Abhay was seen in OTT releases like Safed and Ae Watan Mere Watan. In the former, he played the role of a transgender, and had also given a very good performance.
Filmibeat recently interacted with Abhay and when asked him whether he was skeptical before taking the role of a transgender, the actor said, "Honestly, I can proudly say that I am an example of an actor who can do a Munjya and a Safed. Creators are open to take actors who are taking chances. One of the major reasons I did Safed was because of being skeptical. After reading the script, my mind said no that this should not be the ideal choice, but after a day I contemplated about it, and realised it that though I am saying a no, this is the biggest yes of my life because then you are challenging and exploring yourself."
"I really wanted to explore myself in a light where nobody will see me. So, to get the offer to play a transgender and to be able to represent that community, and now, we are in Pride Month, so I can proudly say that I did that character, and I am really proud of it. That's very closest to my heart and that's where I learnt the most. So, after Safed, an actor can do Munjya and that can become a hit. These are the stereotypical things I am making sure that I fight with them and break them," Abhay added.
Safed On Zee5
Safed was directed by Sandeep Singh, and it also starred Meera Chopra in the lead role. The movie was released on Zee5 last year.
