Pill Producer Ronnie Screwvala: We Are Too Extreme On Judging Everything Based On Budget, Box Office Outcome

Producer Ronnie Screwvala is known as a risk taker and forerunner in bringing good storytelling to screens. Known for critically acclaimed films, his production house RSVP Movies is all set for the premiere of the upcoming web series 'Pill'. The show marks the web series debut of two well-known personalities of Bollywood- the versatile actor Riteish Deshmukh and the national award-winning director Raj Kumar Gupta. 'Pill' will start streaming on JioCinema Premium from 12th July.

In a recent conversation, Ronnie Screwvala opened up about his expectations from the showbiz. "I don't think the industry needs bigger hits, it needs a lot of good content. It doesn't need peaks and drops because then it's not an industry. So, I am all for the fact that more and more good content needs to come up. I also feel that we are too extreme now on judging everything based on budget and a box office outcome and I don't think it's the future of storytelling. It's not the future of audiences. So, the question is why are we trying to set a benchmark? Every year is different for all sectors. In fact, today, I would much rather go for better storytelling and I would like to lower profile the aspect of box office being the only judgment of success."

About the plot of Pill he shared, "Pill is a fictional story and there is no finger-pointing. Coming out of a pandemic, health and medicine is a very relevant theme. So, we took a very current theme and then looked at the sector. Every sector has a dark side. Airline, Banking or any other. So that is where the creative producer and director have to choose showing and raising positive issues. That is how I choose. It is about balance."
