IFFI 2024 EXCLUSIVE: Subhash Ghai Drops Update On Aitraaz 2 Casting, CONFIRMS Return With Masala Entertainer

Subhash Ghai IFFI 2024: You're not a true-blue Bollywood buff if you have not seen classics like Taal, Pardes, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak and Kalicharan. I was not born when some of his evergreen films released in the theatres, but I fondly remember dancing on the popular songs from his movies and watching them on television. I am talking about the one and only- Subhash Ghai.

Ghai's movies boast of iconic characters, grand sequences, intriguing climaxes and vibrant music. As he attended the 55th International Film Festival of India in Goa, the veteran director joined Filmibeat for an exclusive conversation on films, his upcoming projects including Aitraaz 2 and return in a full-fledged Bollywood masala entertainer.

WHEN WILL SUBHASH GHAI MAKE HIS DIRECTORIAL COMEBACK?

His short film Gandhi, starring Manoj Bajpayee, received praise following its world premiere at IFFI 2024. I asked him about his return to direction in a full-fledged film and his response made me beam with joy. His last directed film was Kanchi, which starred Kartik Aaryan and Mishti.

"I have plans to direct a Bollywood masala entertainer, which will have all the ingredients. I will announce the project at the right time. I am making a comeback with something exciting," Ghai quipped.

SUBHASH GHAI DROPS HINT ABOUT AITRAAZ 2 CASTING

The ace filmmaker created ripples on social media when he announced Aitraaz 2. The original film starred Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. It went on to make waves at the box office and earn critical acclaim.

Dropping a major update about the casting of Aitraaz 2, Ghai told Filmibeat, "We have an exciting idea for the film, which I believe will resonate well with the audience. There will be a new pair of lead actors, who can do justice to the film. The OGs- Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar won't be a part of the project. We are considering actors from the current generation, who take the script to the next level with their performance. Expect the unexpected in Aitraaz 2."
