Bollywood Trends In 2024: The year 2024 is coming to an end soon and it has been quite an eventful year for Bollywood. After all, it not just witnessed the release of the biggest films on the big screens but also saw new box office records in making. In fact, the filmmakers came with an interesting releases this year and saw a hike in footfalls in theatres. And as we are set to bid adieu to 2024, there have been several trends that were seen on the big screen.
Here's a look at all the trends in Bollywood releases that grabbed the eyeballs:
Horror/ Horror Comedies
If you have been a fan of horror film, be it the spooky stories or the horror comedies, the year 2024 was undoubtedly a treat for you. From Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor coming with the much awaited Stree 2 which set the box office on fire to Kartik Aaryan's return as Rooh Randhawa in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the horror comedies have certainly left the horror fans intrigued. Apart from Stree 2, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Munjya, Shaitaan had also set the big screen on fire while Kakuda and Bloody Ishq made its way to OTT platforms. On the other hand, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Diana Penty starrer Adbhut became Sony Max's first direct to TV release and won hearts.
Franchise Fever
Interestingly, the year 2024 also saw the return of several franchises. Rajkummar Rao brought Stree 2 (the sequel to the 2018 release Stree), while Taapsee Pannu and Vikrant Massey came with Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba - a sequel to Hasseen Dillruba. Several other franchises also got a new addition. These included Ajay Devgn's Singham Again (third installment of the Singham franchise), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (third installment of Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise), Kaagaz 2 (a spiritual successor to 2021 film Kaagaz). Besides, we can't miss out Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule which has been the sequel to 2021 release Pushpa 1: The Rise which had set the box office on fire.
Let's Get Back To History
This year we saw several films which was a trip down the memory lane and brought several stories from history to life on screen. From Ae Watan Mere Watan - which is a historical biographical film based on the life of Usha Meha who started an underground radio station to spread the message of unity during India's struggle for freedom in 1942, to Diljit Dosanjh's Amar Singh Chamkila which is based on the life of renowned Punjabi singer of the same name, Ajay Devgn's sports biopic Maidaan based on Syed Abdul Rahim, a pioneering football coach in India between 1952 and 1962, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar which is a biopic on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, these movies did grab eyeballs for their plotline.
Action Drama
Action drama has been an important genre in Bollywood and this year as well, several action films left the audience in absolute awe. These included Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone starrer Fighter, Sidharth Malhotra's Yodha, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Lakshya's debut release Kill, Ajay Devgn's Singham Again, John Abraham starrer Vedaa, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Raghav Juyal's Yudhra and Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra.
Biopics/ Based On Real Incidents
The year 2024 also witnessed the release of several biopics on eminent personalities like Srikanth which is based on the life of Srikanth Bolla, a visually-impaired industrialist and the founder of Bollant Industries, Maidaan based on football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who played a key role in establishing the game in India between 1952 and 1962, Chandu Champion - a sports biopic on India's first Paralympics gold medallist Murlikant Petkar, Amar Singh Chamkila based on the life of renowned Punjabi singer of the same name and Swatantrya Veer Savarkar which is a biopic on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar
