Zakir Hussain Death Reason Update: The nation woke up to the most heartbreaking news of the year on Monday as one of the legendary artists passed away. We are talking about Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain who reportedly breathed his last at the age of 73. According to the media reports, Zakir passed away in San Francisco. For the uninitiated, Zakir has been in the hospital for two weeks now and was shifted to the ICU after his health deteriorated lately.
Confusion Over Zakir Hussain's Demise
While there have been reports about Zakir passing away due to heart related complications, the reports of his demise were dismissed by his nephew who claimed that the tabla maestro was alive. His nephew Ameer Aulia tweeted, "I am Zakir Hussain nephew and he has not passed away. We ask for prayers for my Uncle's health. Can you please remove this misinformation. He is in a serious condition and we ask for all his fans around the world to pray for his health". However, the news of Zakir's demise was later confirmed during the wee hours of Monday as family issued a statement in this regard.
Zakir Hussain Death Confirmed; Family Reveals Real Reason
In a conversation with India Today, Zakir Hussain's family shared a statement and revealed the actual cause of his demise - idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis which is a chronic lung disease. "Zakir Hussain, one of the world's most transcendent musicians, passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco at the age of 73. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come," the family said in a statement.
What Is Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF)?
For the uninitiated, Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most common type of pulmonary fibrosis. It is a chronic lung disease causing scarring of lungs and the patient suffers from difficulty in breathing and cough. Reportedly, scarring caused by IPF is progressive and irreversible. However, the cause of this disease is still unknown
To note, Zakir Hussain is survived by his wife Antonia Minnecola, a former Kathak dancer, and their two daughters Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi. Ever since the news of Zakir Hussain's demise has surfaced, the social media is abuzz with tweets offering condolences. Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Kamal Haasan wrote, "Zakir Bhai ! He left too soon. Yet we are grateful for the times he gave us and what he left behind in the form of his art. Goodbye and Thank you".
