Aanand L. Rai's Passion Project 'Heer' In the Works Again, Filmmaker Planning To Expand 'Love Universe'

Filmmaker Aanand L Rai and his production house, Colour Yellow Productions are finally reviving a lost dream. The Raanjhanaa filmmaker, is all set to re-begin the search for his new muse, for the modern-day adaptation of Heer, a passion project that was supposedly in the works in 2014.
Back in 2014, Aanand L. Rai spoke up about how he wanted to helm a movie which was ambitious, modern, and an emotionally charged take on the timeless tragedy of Heer, one-half of Heer Ranjha, whose love continues to inspire stories on screen, even today.
If sources are to be believed, Aanand and his team are looking to mount the film in 2026, with a prominent Bollywood actress leading the project. "The film is going to be from the female protagonist's perspective, much like their projects Tanu Weds Manu, Haseen Dillruba, Atrangi Re and Nil Battey Sannata," the source shares.
What's more exciting about this development is that this film might not be a stand-alone project. Sources say that it could be the first, in a series of the production house's attempt to build an "interconnected cinematic universe" where love-across time, places, and perspectives-" ties it all together."
On the work front, Aanand L. Rai has his hands full with helming Tere Ishk Mein, which stars Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. Touted to be an "intense tale of unrequited love", Tere Ishk Mein will mark the reunion of team Raanjhanaa, including Rai, Dhanush and music composer AR Rahman.
