Veteran filmmaker Chandra Barot, best known for directing the iconic Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don, has sadly passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The film industry mourns the loss of a visionary director whose work left a lasting impact on Indian cinema.

How Did Don Director Chandra Barot Die?

As per India TV's report, Chandra Barot was battling Pulmonary Fibrosis for 7 years. After battling it for so long, Chandra succumbed to death on Sunday at the age of 86.Chandra Barot's death was confirmed by his wife Deepa Barot. She said to TOI, "He had been battling pulmonary fibrosis for the past seven years." The veteran filmmaker was undergoing treatment for pulmonary fibrosis at Guru Nanak Hospital. He was also admitted to Jaslok Hospital.

What is Pulmonary Fibrosis?

As per the Mayo Clinic, Pulmonary Fibrosis is a "lung disease that occurs when lung tissue is damaged or scarred." As per the reports, "This thickened, stiff tissue makes it harder for the lungs to work properly. Pulmonary fibrosis worsens over time." If the condition of the person with Pulmonary Fibrosis worsen then he faces difficulty in breathing.
