Bhool Chuk Maaf: Is Cancelling Rajkummar's Film's Theatrical Release Amid Indo-Pak Tension An 'Excuse'?

Bhool Chuk Maaf Theatrical Release Cancelled Reason: Rajkummar Rao, who had set the box office on fire with Stree 2, is making headlines for his upcoming release. We are talking about Bhool Chuk Maaf which is a comedy-drama. Also starring Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead, the movie marks her first collaboration with Rajkummar Rao adding to the anticipation among fans. Directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Bhool Chuk Maaf promises not only laughter but also an engaging narrative. The movie boasts a stellar cast that includes Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Raghubir Yadav, and Seema Pahwa, all of whom play pivotal roles.

Bhool Chuk Maaf was set to hit the screens on May 9. However, the makers decided to release the film on OTT and the decision was released just a day before the theatrical release citing the ongoing Indo-Pak tension. While the makers took the decision stating the spirit of the nation comes first, it has got everyone brimming with an opinion.

Amid this, film business expert Rohit Jaiswal stated, "Canceling the theatrical release of #BhoolChukMaaf and directly bringing it to Amazon, citing unfavorable conditions in the country, doesn't seem right. In my opinion, this decision appears to be an excuse..... Agar situation pe doubt tha to advance kyu open kia??? Your move to release 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' directly on OTT, claiming unfavorable conditions, is a blatant contradiction. Promoting the film on ground while citing unsuitable circumstances is deceitful. Postponing the theatrical release by a couple of months would've been a more genuine approach. This decision reeks of opportunism and disregard for the audience's theatrical experience, also it's a disrespect to theatre owners".

On the other hand, Vishek Chauhan, the owner of Purnia's Roopbani Cinema in Bihar told Bollywood Hungama, "The root cause is that there was no demand for this film and hence, they decided to dress it up this way. Had the advances been extraordinary, then Dinesh Vijan wouldn't have cancelled the release". This isn't all. Exhibitor and distributor Raj Bansal told Bollywood Hungama, "I strongly feel that since the film didn't create much buzz, they took the OTT route just to safeguard their interest."

To note, Bhool Chuk Maaf is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 16.
