Dhurandhar In Legal Trouble: Karachi Cop's Video Raises Objection Over Her Husband's Negative Portrayal In Ran
The Dhurandhar controversy centres on concerns about the portrayal of Chaudhary Aslam and related characters. Families seek legal steps to address perceived misrepresentation, while discussions consider the historical context of Karachi police and the film’s casting. The issue highlights sensitivity around depictions of real figures and national memory.

Naureen Aslam, speaking to PTI via Geo Digital, said she has watched the trailer and found parts disturbing. She plans to view the full film before deciding her next move but has already objected to certain language that, according to Naureen Aslam, insulted both Chaudhary Aslam and family members.
Dhurandhar controversy over portrayal of Chaudhary Aslam
The trailer reportedly refers to “devi and a jinn”, which Naureen Aslam described as deeply hurtful. "We are Muslims and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but his mother as well, who was a simple, honest woman," Naureen Aslam said. She believes this description clashes with the image many in Karachi held of Chaudhary Aslam.
Naureen Aslam stressed that any depiction that questions her husband’s courage will be challenged in court. "If I see my husband being portrayed wrongly or any propaganda against him in the film, I will definitely take all legal steps I can," she before, adding, "My husband was a brave and courageous police officer, and his name was feared by criminals and terrorists... I am surprised that they have portrayed Rehman Dakait as a big terrorist, although I know from my husband that he was a extortionist, kidnapper and a criminal."
Dhurandhar casting and link to Karachi police history
In 'Dhurandhar’, led by Ranveer Singh, actor Sanjay Dutt plays a character based on Chaudhary Aslam. The real Aslam was a Karachi police officer who became known as an encounter specialist. Aslam gained a reputation for taking on militant networks and criminal gangs in one of Pakistan’s most violent cities.
The parents of Late Major Mohit Sharma earlier moved the Delhi High Court, seeking a stay on 'Dhurandhar’. They raised objections about the portrayal of the Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee in the film. Their petition argued that any misrepresentation of Major Mohit Sharma’s service record would be unacceptable to the family.
Dhurandhar linked to 2014 attack on Chaudhary Aslam
Chaudhary Aslam was killed on 9 January 2014 in Karachi when a bomb targeted his car on the Lyari Expressway. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban’s Mohmand chapter claimed responsibility for the attack. The blast did not only kill Chaudhary Aslam; two other police officers, his driver and a guard also lost their lives.
Naureen Aslam described her husband as a “brave warrior” who fought terror groups and criminal outfits. She said the film’s makers should have consulted the family while shaping the character. For now, Naureen Aslam awaits the full release of 'Dhurandhar’ and maintains that any unfair or false portrayal will be contested through every available legal channel.
