Dishani Chakraborty Opens Up On Performing In Front Of Father Mithun Chakraborty: It’s Always A Little Intimid

Dishani Chakraborty presents One Last Day, a short film written, produced, and acted by herself. The story follows a couple sharing a final day together, emphasising gentleness, acceptance, and the choice to part.”

Dishani Chakraborty, daughter of Mithun Chakraborty, is bringing out a new short film titled One Last Day. Dishani has written, produced, and acted in the project. The story follows a couple who spend a final day together before ending their relationship, focusing on gentle feelings of love, acceptance, and farewell rather than conflict.

Sharing what shaped the heart of One Last Day, Dishani connected the film to personal experience. She said, "I've gone through heartbreak myself, and writing this film felt therapeutic not in a painful way, but in a gentle one. I didn't want to tell a story about the moment things fall apart. I wanted to focus on the moment just before that, the fantasy of having one last day with someone you love, where you're still choosing each other, even though you know you're about to let go."

Dishani described how taking on three roles for One Last Day shaped the project’s journey. She said, "It was definitely overwhelming at times, but also really special. Katherine Russell and I wrote the story together—it started as her idea and I spent almost two years developing the screenplay before I felt ready to share it. Acting in a film I've written feels very exposed. It almost felt like bringing a diary entry to life, which made the experience incredibly cathartic for me. Producing was the scariest hat to wear because I had never been involved in pre- or post-production before, but I was lucky to have such a supportive crew. My producer, Nidhin Patel, truly guided me through every step, and having that kind of support made the entire process feel collaborative rather than intimidating."

Dishani also spoke about guidance from Mithun Chakraborty and brother Namashi while working on One Last Day. She said, "I actually had both my dad and my brother come to set one day, which was really special. It's always a little intimidating performing in front of my dad because he's my biggest inspiration, but having his support and hearing how proud he was meant everything to me. My brother, Namashi, has been a huge influence on my creative process. Watching him write, produce, and act in his own short films made the idea of creating something of my own feel possible. Seeing that kind of creative independence up close really encouraged me to focus on writing and to trust my voice as a storyteller."

With One Last Day, Dishani Chakraborty uses a quiet breakup story to examine parting with tenderness. The film draws on Dishani’s own heartbreak, long writing process, and first-time producing experience, supported by collaborator Katherine Russell, producer Nidhin Patel, and close involvement from Mithun Chakraborty and Namashi as Dishani shapes a personal screen narrative.
