As we engaged in an exclusive tête-à-tête with Nikita Rawal, she spilled the beans on her upcoming projects and shared how art forms played an important role in shaping her as a creative person.
Here are excerpts from the interview!
1. You've had a multifaceted career in acting, modeling, and classical Kathak dance. How do you balance these different art forms, and how have they shaped your creative journey?
Well, all of these art forms have certainly played a big and significant role behind making me the artist that I am today. I would like to call it the 'butterfly effect' where one thing leads to the other. I have always trained myself as a dancer which opened me up as a performing artiste when it comes to performing in front of my audience. That certainly boosted my confidence as a model and eventually, acting offers came my way by God's grace. So yes, all of them have played a special role in shaping me as the creative person that I am today.
2. Your performances often carry strong emotional depth. What usually inspires you when preparing for a particularly challenging role or dance piece?
Well, that's the whole purpose of feeling every bit of the art, ain't it? As an artiste, whatever you are doing, be it acting, dance or anything else, you need to establish an emotional connection with it in order to do complete justice to it. So, when you naturally focus on establishing that emotional connect and layers in your performance, the layers and depth automatically reflects in your art. As a performer, I always try my best to do that. To add to that, great creative people around you certainly makes the process easier and better.
3. You've also been vocal about various social causes. What drives your passion for activism, and which issue is currently closest to your heart?
Well, I always feel that an artiste should always have a voice that speaks from within. As public figures, we are blessed with the power to influence the youth and the people in a positive way. It's a bit responsibility and so why should anyone take it lightly? That's why, I strongly feel that if you are a public figure who feels strongly about social issues, you must speak. Given your popularity, you will raise eyeballs and that will open up productive conversations around the same. That's why, I never hesitated from being vocal about various social causes. As far as closest to my heart is concerned, I really can't pinpoint one particular thing. I talk about whatever I feel strongly. But yes, things like education for girls, cleanliness drives and menstrual hygiene and promoting better greenery is something that I always feel very strongly about. I would love to contribute more in these domains.
4. The entertainment industry can be both rewarding and demanding. What has been one of the most defining or transformative moments in your career so far?
Well, the journey itself has been extremely transformative and defining. Just like any other profession, this too has many highs and lows and I have been through it all. But I would say, the best thing I have learnt by being a part of this industry is the importance of self-belief, discipline and consistency. If you can have a strong mind that believes in yourself when nobody else does, you will go a long way. I try my best everyday, waking up in front of the mirror with a clean-hearted approach where I want to give my best shot daily. I am my own competition who's willing to learn and grow daily. So, I believe my positive attitude towards my life and career has to be the most defining and transformative thing for me.
5. Looking ahead, what kind of roles or projects are you most excited to explore in the near future?
Well, as an artist, you want to do everything that you possibly can. While you want to have fun being in your comfort zone, there are also times when you want to push yourself beyond usual limits and do the unthinkable. I am not scared of challenges and I want to embrace them to come out as a better artist. So yes, I am very much open to doing good and concrete subjects in all formats and mediums. As long as the story is something I resonate with and it touches my heart, I am game on for it.
6. There's been quite a buzz about a recent video featuring you and Sangram Singh, sparking speculation about a film collaboration. Can you share anything about this potential project and what audiences might expect from your on-screen pairing?
Well, I would love it if the speculation continues to remain as of now. When the right time and moment comes, I will be sharing more details shortly. But yes, by now, everyone is aware of 'Real Men Unleashed' where Sangram Singh is one of the judges. I am producing the show and also hosting it, and it has other great names too in the form of Sunny Leone, Tanishaa Mukerji, Mr. Faisu, Sushant Divgikar aka Rani Ko-He-Nur, and others. So yes, certain stuff is announced, whereas a lot is left to be revealed. Please stay tuned and things will be unfolded soon. Thanks to everyone for all the love and support.
