Mumtaz explained that during her time, parental restrictions were much stricter than today.

In an interview with Filmibeat, Mumtaz elaborated on how her parents' strictness affected her relationship with Shammi. "Hamare zamaaane mein aisa nahi tha ke pure din saath mein baithe rahe because I was also busy working and even him. I would come home from work and entertain his guests. Dekh liya, khana vana ho gaya sab ho gaya. Then I would say, I will go now because my mother will wait for me and she would scold me. Uss zamaane mein parents were very strict, I come from a Muslim family, Iranians are very strict. I never went shooting alone. My mother was always with me. Toh aisa kabhi nahi hua ke poore poore din aur raat saath bitaye ho."

MUMTAZ ON CHOOSING CAREER OVER LOVE

Mumtaz also discussed her decision to prioritise her career over love. She mentioned that Shammi Kapoor's father did not allow women in his family to work, which was a significant factor in their relationship not progressing to marriage. Mumtaz respected this decision but chose to pursue her ambitions instead.

"I have said this many times that we didn't get married because Papaji (Shammi Kapoor's father) didn't allow the women in his family to work," Mumtaz stated. "I was ambitious. They didn't allow women in their house to work. Uss wakhat Geeta ji (Geeta Bali) ne bhi kaam chhod diya tha."

Shammi Kapoor's Marriages

Shammi Kapoor was initially married to Geeta Bali until her passing. Afterward, he met Mumtaz but eventually married Neila Devi following their separation. Mumtaz expressed contentment knowing Shammi had a supportive partner by his side when he passed away.

Mumtaz acknowledged the reality of infidelity in marriages but respected Shammi's father's stance on women working outside the home. "He was right and I respect him immensely for that," she said about Shammi's father's decision.
