Filmmaker Who Failed In Acting, Battled Body Dysmorphia, Was Called 'Pansy', Now Is Padma Shri Awardee

Filmmaker who originally wanted to be an actor: We all know how the Bollywood industry works, here, those who are in the Bollywood industry want his or her daughter/son to be an actor or actress. However, it was different with this person. This director's father was a well-known producer who wanted his son to be an actor, but fate had something else planned for him.
Wanting to fulfill his father's dream, this director tried his luck in acting. But it did not work for him. Therefore, he decided to follow his instinct and continue to direct the movies. He soon gave his after his and became a well-known name in the entertainment industry.
Movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kahna, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, and My Name Is Khan hold a special place in everyone's hearts. And here we are talking about the famed director Karan Johar.
Before debuting as a director, Karan Johar was a costume designer first. Design costumes for Shahrukh Khan in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Veer-Zaara, and for Amitabh Bachchan in Mohabbatein. Hidden made his debut as an actor in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, but the movie did not perform well. Thankfully, Karan only charged Rs. 11 as his fees as per the India.com report.
Life was not as easy as it seemed for Karan Johar. As a kid, he was called by the name 'pansy' by his peers. He therefore found it difficult to fit in with other children while growing up. Talking about his childhood, he said, "I was a very feminine child. I was teased about it. It was just something I had to deal with. There was a term in the 80s called 'pansy', boys who were effeminate were called that and it was deeply disturbing at that time. It used to make me sadder that time." Well, Karan Johar got all his dreams come true despite all the odds. He was honored with the Padma Shri in 2020. He now wishes to get an Oscar and has also been practicing for the same. "This is for you, India" is something Karan wants to speak when he gets the award.
