IT Raids At Shilpa Shetty's Mumbai Home Amid 60cr Cheating Case Allegations

The article reports the Mumbai police probe into a ₹60 crore allegation involving Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra over Best Deal TV, alongside separate Income Tax checks at a Bengaluru outlet, with investigations into funds diverted for personal use and company losses.

Income Tax officials have searched actor Shilpa Shetty’s Mumbai home as part of a ₹60 crore fraud probe linked to a now-shut television shopping venture. The action followed a police complaint that accused Shilpa and spouse Raj Kundra of diverting large investment funds for personal use over several years.

The Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing registered an FIR on 14 August against Shilpa and Raj, who were directors of Best Deal TV Private Limited. Businessman Deepak Kothari alleged the couple cheated in a loan-cum-investment arrangement, claiming almost ₹60 crore given between 2015 and 2023 was not repaid.

According to the complaint, Kothari stated the money was meant to support Best Deal TV Private Limited, a home shopping and online retail company. The businessman alleged the funds were instead used for the couple’s personal benefit. The company has since closed, and investigators are reviewing financial trails related to the transactions.

During questioning in the fraud case, Raj told authorities that part of the ₹60 crore went towards fees for actors Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia. Raj also said Best Deal TV Private Limited dealt in electrical and household appliances and ran into heavy losses after demonetisation took effect in 2016, causing serious financial strain.

Raj has claimed the business collapse and financial crisis meant the company could not return the borrowed funds to Kothari. While the criminal investigation continues in Mumbai, the Income Tax Department separately carried out a search at Bastian Pub in Bengaluru, which is owned by Shilpa, checking financial records for suspected tax evasion.

Officials examined accounts at the Bengaluru outlet near Church Street, looking at revenue entries and related documents. These checks are part of a parallel tax inquiry, separate from the Economic Offences Wing case. So far, authorities have not announced any final findings from either the alleged fraud probe or the suspected tax violations.
