Karan Johar candidly discusses his parenting challenges and emotional scars from childhood during a recent podcast. He addresses societal pressures, body image issues, and his desire to protect his twins, Yash and Roohi, while navigating the complexities of modern parenting.

Karan Johar recently shared insights into his parenting challenges and the emotional scars from his childhood. Speaking with star Saniaza on her podcast, he discussed body image issues, societal pressures, and how these experiences influence his parenting of twins Yash and Roohi. Karan expressed a desire to protect his children while also grappling with finding a balance between care and overprotection.
During the conversation, Karan highlighted the intense social pressures children face today, from their appearance to online popularity. He lamented that kids now feel anxious about not meeting certain beauty or popularity standards at an early age. Reflecting on his own childhood as a plus-size child who was still happy, he expressed concern for today's "physically different" children.
Parenting Concerns
Karan opened up about his fears, saying, "I want to tell you that 50% of me is so scarred by my childhood that I get paranoid that my kids would gain weight. I carry childhood trauma. I keep saying don't eat sugar. But a part of me wants to liberate them from it." He admitted feeling conflicted when they miss activities like football due to school commitments.
Recalling hurtful comments from his past, Karan shared, "I remember I was told, play dabba gul because football is not for you." This has left him in a conflicted state regarding parenting. He worries about screen time but acknowledges things can still pop up online. His concerns extend to changing his clothing style to prevent potential embarrassment for his children at school.
Protective Parenting
Karan's journey into parenthood began in 2017 when he became a proud father to Yash and Roohi. His protective nature stems from wanting them to be accepting of everything and everyone. He fears they might encounter online content that could embarrass them and strives to shield them from such experiences.
The director's reflections reveal the complexities of modern parenting amidst societal expectations and personal experiences. Balancing protection with freedom remains a challenge as he navigates raising children in today's world.
