Pahalgam Attack: Aamir Skips Special Screening Of Andaz Apna Apna; Says 'Badly Affected By Senseless Killings'

The recent terror attack in Pahalgam has led Bollywood stars, including Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, to cancel events and express condolences. The industry unites in mourning and solidarity, reflecting on the impact of violence and the need for justice.

The tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, has cast a shadow over India, prompting a series of cancellations and postponements within the Bollywood industry as a gesture of solidarity. The violent event has deeply impacted many, including Aamir Khan, who decided against attending the special screening of his 1994 hit film, "Andaz Apna Apna," scheduled for re-release on April 25, marking 31 years since its debut. Aamir Khan expressed his sorrow and the profound effect the incident had on him in a conversation with journalist Subhash K Jha. He stated, "I was reading reports about what happened at Pahalgam in Kashmir. I have been badly affected by the senseless killing of innocents. I was in no state to go (to the preview). I will see it sometime later this week."

In the wake of the attack, the Bollywood community has united in grief. Shah Rukh Khan shared his condolences and frustration on X (formerly Twitter), condemning the incident as "treachery and inhumane act of violence." He sent his thoughts to the victims' families and called for justice. Similarly, Salman Khan expressed his distress over the situation in Kashmir, lamenting the transformation of what he described as "heaven on planet earth turning into hell" due to the targeting of innocent people, extending his sympathy to their loved ones.

Amidst this climate of sorrow and solidarity, the screening of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan's film "Abir Gulaal" in India has been halted. This decision reflects a broader industry stance of taking firm measures in response to acts of terror, underscoring a collective move towards impactful actions in the face of violence.

Reflecting on the journey of "Andaz Apna Apna," Aamir Khan shared insights into the film's initial reception and its eventual rise to fame. Despite a lukewarm box office performance initially, the movie, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and also starring Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon, Paresh Rawal, and Shakti Kapoor, has become a cult classic. Aamir recounted, "Raj Santoshi and I were the only two people who believed in the film. We loved it. So, when it didn't work, we were both sad. And then it goes on to become my biggest success on home entertainment!!! Both Raj and I were finally redeemed." This turnaround story highlights the unpredictable nature of film success and the enduring appeal of heartfelt storytelling.

As Bollywood continues to navigate the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the industry's response reflects a commitment to empathy, solidarity, and resilience in the face of tragedy. The collective mourning and adjustments to scheduled events signify a broader intent to honor the victims and seek justice, while also celebrating the enduring spirit of creativity and community within the film industry.
