Phule Director Ananth Mahadevan Spills Notion On Reservation System
Reservation system has been a long-debated topic in India, while many encourage it, others are still in the dilemma whether it should be continued or abolished. As the director have worked closely with a 'prevalent' and sensitive issue like this, we asked Ananth Mahadeven in an exclusive interview his views on the reservation system in India that still persists after 78 years of independence. To which he said, "This has gone too deep into the system that it's not easy to off it at this time," continuing it he said, "What we should do is that we should eradicate the differences in the mind first of cast and creed and the other things and we should discontinue marginalizing a certain sector or people. Even Ambedkar was inspired by Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule. It was Savitribai Phule who was first against it that they won't be called 'shudras' or 'dalits'. We have still not come to the end of the revolution, we are in the midst of it."
He further added abolishing the reservation system totally is still very 'difficult' in a country like India where "there is hierarchy in the system" exists.
Phule, which is set to release on April 11, is facing off with Sunny Deol's Jaat in the box office. When the director was asked if he thinks it'll divide the moviegoers, the director said, "Both are totally different genres of movies, Phule is pure cinemas, it caters to the masses in a different way. It's a not an action entertainer, it's an elevating film."
