Priya Sachdev Changes Name Amid Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 Cr Family Succession Battle With Mother-In-Law
The death of Sunjay Kapur has led to a legal dispute between his wife Priya and mother Rani over a ₹30,000 crore company. Priya's new role at Sona Comstar adds complexity to the situation.

Sunjay Kapur Death: Priya Sachdev Kapur's recent Instagram update has caught attention amidst a family dispute. She has not yet spoken publicly about her husband Sunjay Kapur's passing or the ongoing conflict. Priya, who married Sunjay in 2017, has now taken on a role at Sona Comstar and updated her Instagram handle to Priya Sunjay Kapur. This change comes during a heated ₹30,000-crore succession battle with her mother-in-law Rani Kapur.
Following Sunjay Kapur's death, his wife Priya and mother Rani are embroiled in a legal battle over the control of a global company worth ₹30,000 crore. Rani Kapur is attempting to halt an Annual General Meeting of Sona BLW Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar). She alleges that she was coerced into signing documents after Sunjay's demise on June 23. Although she hasn't named anyone specifically, her objections seem directed at Priya Sachdev Kapur.
Instagram Update Amidst Family Feud
The former model and actor has updated her Instagram profile to reflect her new position in the company. She is now listed as a 'non-executive director' of the auto parts firm previously chaired by her late husband, Sunjay Kapur. Her Instagram handle has also changed — from Priya Sachdev Kapur to Priya Sunjay Kapur. Her bio reads, "Mother. Entrepreneur. Investor. Non-Executive Director, Sona Comstar. Director, Aureus Investment. Carrying forward the vision of @sunjaykapur."
Despite Rani's objections, the company proceeded with its AGM on July 25, stating that Rani was not a shareholder since 2019. The company appointed Priya as a non-executive director. Meanwhile, Rani claims to be the sole representative of the family's interests in the auto components firm and cites a will from June 30, 2015, asserting she is the sole beneficiary of Surinder Kapur's estate.
Sunjay's Untimely Death
Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12 while playing polo in England. Initial reports suggested he died from a heart attack at age 53 during the match. His last rites were conducted in Delhi. Sunjay had three marriages; first to Nandita Mahtani in 1996 for four years, then to Karisma Kapoor in 2003 with whom he had two children - Samaira and Kiaan.
Karisma and Sunjay filed for divorce in 2014 and it was finalised in 2016. He later married Priya Sachdev in 2017 and they have one son named Azarias together. At the time of his death, he was married to Priya.
Rani also described her son's death as occurring under "highly suspicious and unexplained circumstances" while he was in the UK.
