According to DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam's report, Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad has been identified as the accused in the attack on Saif Ali Khan and has been arrested. In an interview with PTI, Gedam revealed that Shehzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was arrested at Hiranandani Estate on Ghodbandar Road, near Thane district.

Reports suggest that Shehzad had entered India illegally and had been residing in Mumbai under the alias "Bijoy Das." He had worked at a housekeeping agency but had been unemployed for several months. Along with his friends, Shehzad had been living in Worli, Mumbai.

"On January 16, at 2 am, actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his residence. FIR was registered and one accused has been arrested. His name is Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, he is 30 years old. He entered the house with the intention of robbery. He will be produced in the court and custody will be demanded (sic)," said Dixit Gedam.

To note, the incident took place at the wee hours on Thursday. Saif Ali Khan was stabbed 6 times and a 2.5-inch piece of the metal was removed from his spine after a five-hour-long surgery. As of now, Saif is recovering.
