Salman Khan's Ravindra Kaushik Biopic Shelved; Director Raj Kumar Gupta Reveals The REAL REASON For Delay

The anticipated biopic on Indian spy Ravindra Kaushik featuring Salman Khan has been delayed due to expired rights. Director Raj Kumar Gupta explains the situation, while both he and Khan continue working on other projects.

Raj Kumar Gupta, known for directing Raid 2, disclosed in a recent conversation that the anticipated biopic on Ravindra Kaushik starring Salman Khan has been put on hold. The collaboration, initially announced in 2021, was highly awaited as it marked Salman Khan's entry into biopic territory, focusing on the life of the celebrated Indian spy, Ravindra Kaushik. The project's cancellation, according to Gupta, stems from the expiration of the rights to Kaushik's story, which were not renewed in time for the film's development.

In an in-depth interview with PTI, Gupta elaborated on the situation, stating, "The rights were there with me, but then the rights expired, and I didn't renew them, so we didn't do that." This revelation clarifies the speculation around the movie's status, which had fans eagerly waiting for its production to commence. The biopic aimed to shed light on Ravindra Kaushik, also known as Black Tiger, celebrated as one of India's most distinguished spies.

The project, as Gupta and his team envisioned, was to chronicle Kaushik's exploits and contributions to India's intelligence operations. A source had previously informed Pinkvilla about the film's ambitions, noting, "It's a film based on the life of Indian spy Ravindra Kaushik. He is famously known as Black Tiger and is regarded as India's best spy ever." The source further detailed that Gupta had dedicated five years to researching Kaushik's life, culminating in a screenplay that aimed to honor his legacy and heroic acts. Salman Khan had reportedly shown great interest in the project, recognizing its potential to tell one of the most heroic and astonishing stories from the annals of Indian Intelligence.

Meanwhile, despite the setback with the Kaushik biopic, Raj Kumar Gupta's cinematic ventures continue with the upcoming release of Raid 2. This sequel to the 2018 hit Raid promises to bring back Ajay Devgn in his acclaimed role as IRS officer Amay Patnaik. The film, which is slated for release on May 1, 2025, has already generated buzz with its trailer and several songs. Alongside Devgn, the movie boasts a stellar cast including Vaani Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, and others, setting high expectations for its performance at the box office.

Salman Khan, on the other hand, continues to make waves in the film industry. Following his last action-packed venture in Sikandar alongside Rashmika Mandanna, he is now gearing up for another project with Sanjay Dutt, tentatively titled Ganga Ram. This indicates that both Khan and Gupta are moving forward with their respective careers despite the unforeseen halt on the Ravindra Kaushik biopic.

The shelving of the Salman Khan-starrer biopic on Ravindra Kaushik signifies a missed opportunity to showcase a significant figure in India's intelligence history. Yet, both Raj Kumar Gupta and Salman Khan's ongoing projects hint at a bustling future for Indian cinema, filled with stories that promise to entertain and enlighten audiences globally. As the industry continues to evolve, the tales of heroes like Ravindra Kaushik remain waiting for their moment on the silver screen, hopefully to be revisited and brought to life in the future.
