Sargun Mehta Gets Candid About Chaos, Comedy, And Commitment Behind Saunkan Saunkanay 2 As Actor And Producer

Actress Sargun Mehta, who is gearing up for the much-anticipated release of Saunkan Saunkanay 2, also starring Ammy Virk and Nimrat Khaira, opens up about the behind-the-scenes struggles, emotional commitment, and her belief in the power of comedy to connect with audiences.
She said, "Honestly, there could be a 10% reduction in a couple of scenes, but for the most part, you can work around it. I remember one particular scene with Nimrat and me-both of us had a fever of 102 degrees, and we were singing loudly all night for that scene. I was just watching it in the edit recently, and both our voices sounded half gone. It's understandable for me-my voice is always a bit rough-but it was happening to her too, and she's a singer! I thought to myself, 'Bro, we were singing and dancing in such a terrible condition.' But of course, as an audience, you'd never be able to tell that any of that had happened."
Talking about the experience of producing and starring in the film, she said, "As a producer, I think I'm just too attached to my film. The moment I get the chance to make one, it feels like my entire life starts revolving around it. It's been two years since I began working on this project-I started last December-and while I don't know how it will eventually turn out, I've been completely invested in it from the start. That kind of emotional involvement makes it hard to lie or pretend during the process. I'm genuinely stressed. Being a producer means being on set constantly, managing budgets, coordinating production logistics, ensuring everything from lights to cameras is in place-while also acting in the film. Balancing both roles isn't easy. On smooth days, it feels manageable, but the moment there's a hiccup, it becomes really tough. And to make it more challenging, we were filming in extreme heat while wearing layers of costumes to appear heavier, which added to the overall pressure on set."
Lastly, speaking about why comedy and authenticity will always find their audience, she said, "I don't think that's something I have to do. The audience today is watching so much - we can't sell them anything. Nothing at all. All we can do is put our product in front of them, and they'll decide on their own. Even if I go to their house and ask them to watch my film, they won't - not unless they want to. But if they do, they'll find me and buy the ticket. No matter the environment, you always need a laugh. Whether you're stressed at home or work, you crave those one or two hours to escape into another world. That's why I'm a huge fan of comedy films, and especially of Friends. The moment my stress peaks, I switch on an episode to unwind. Punjabi films really deliver that environment. Our writers are brilliant, the timing is impeccable, and everyone performs so well. After experiencing the flavor of Saunkan Saunkanay, I'm hopeful audiences will return for something even better."
